HGSS also has a point in the game where it allows you to play some stuff "out of order". That was a very fun part of the game that I wish stayed with the series, but models kinda make that impossible. Where ORAS has Sneaking, HGSS has Pokemon following you around. Like I said, I need to play through it again, but that's the impression I had last time I played it, and the impression of others. This seems to be a common complaint, and some people claim that it stretches across the entire game. The wild Pokemon don't keep up in levels, so if you need to train, there's not much you can do but grind forever. I think I'll have to give HeartGold another try, but I'm currently under the impression that the early game is very grindy. I also have Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness, along with Revolution. I also own HeartGold, but I'm letting a friend borrow it. I used to have Emerald, but I had let a friend borrow it and a guy she was living with ended up stealing it along with other stuff and left. I own Yellow, Crystal, FireRed, Ruby, HeartGold, Pearl, Platinum, Y, and Omega Ruby.

If you enjoy playing through the storyline of the games and don't mind the excess of free shit forced down your throat and the lowered difficulty setting, and would enjoy being able to do fun things like Sneak up to wild Pokemon (seriously the best part of the games), then ORAS might be a good game to pick up. If you care about the game being difficult or having literally anything to do besides battling, then ORAS is probably not the game for you.
There are less minigames (no real Safari Zone, no Pokeblock minigame, no Game Corner), and in comparison to Emerald, there are less trainers and the Gym Leaders are easier. I don't want to spoil things too much, but you get handed a lot of stuff for free, no strings attached, like 10 Potions at the beginning of the game. The biggest issues with the games is that they hold your hand so goddamn much that it takes you out of the immersion. It looks pretty and the Sneak mechanic is fun. Are you looking to have some casual fun? Then sure.
